District of 100 Mile House Maintains Urgent Water Conservation Measures

On August 9^th, 2024, the District of 100 Mile House, BC, announced that they had put strict water conservation measures in place. This decision came after alarms signaled dangerously low aquifer levels. After thorough testing and analysis by the District, engineers, and consultants, it was found that the wells are currently not performing at the developed capacity affecting the efficiency of the water supply system. 

Based on these findings, two key recommendations were made:

• Redeveloping all wells: This involves applying various treatments and reconstruction methods to restore each well to peak efficiency, extending their operational life. This process requires significant investment and effort.

• Continuation of water restrictions: These restrictions will remain in place for the foreseeable future to manage the current water supply responsibly.

The District is taking immediate action to prepare for the redevelopment of the wells before winter.

“The District staff have been working tirelessly to ensure that residents and businesses experience minimal disruption in water supply despite the sudden onset of this situation last week,” stated Mayor Pinkney. “We are deeply grateful for their dedication and for the community’s patience and cooperation during this challenging time.”
