Wildfire Update - August 21, 2023

District of 100 Mile House – Wildfire Update, Aug 21, 2023

This year’s unprecedented wildfire season has demanded a massive, coordinated response, beyond the scope of any one agency, town, or fire department. For this reason, mutual aid agreements across Canada allow for firefighting equipment and personnel to be sent to areas most in need when assistance is required.

Our local fire departments are part of this system. The Cariboo region benefited greatly from the help of out-of-town resources during the 2017 wildfires.

Also important is confidence in the response readiness of our local community. We want area residents to have accurate, up-to-date knowledge in this regard. All District of 100 Mile House Fire Department equipment and personnel currently remain in the community. Being ready to protect local lives and property remains our top priority.

Working together, we can all reduce the risk of wildfire impacts: by following current fire restrictions, observing any evacuation alerts or orders that may be issued, and having an emergency plan and ‘grab and go’ kit ready in case of emergency. If you see a forest fire please call 1 800 663-5555 or *5555 from your mobile phone.
