INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT FAQ’s – April 24th, 2026
When will the construction take place?
The construction is set to begin May 4th, 2026. Construction will be underway until the project is completed; estimated completion date is June 26th, 2026.
How will this project impact me during construction?
During construction of the project, here is what you can expect and how you might be impacted:
What can you expect?
• This is what you may see during construction:
- Trucks, excavators, paving equipment, boom trucks
- Construction workers
- Temporary signage
- Traffic control personnel
• This is what you may hear:
- Sounds typical of construction sites including machinery and some increased traffic noise
How will you be impacted?
• You may need more time to walk, cycle, or drive through the area. We will do our best to minimize traffic disruptions and ensure safety for all road users and construction personnel.
• You may hear loud construction noise during the day.
• You may notice construction dust. We will do our best to minimize disturbance.
How will your property or business be impacted?
• We may need to temporarily close accesses to local properties and businesses during construction. We will work with local properties and businesses to minimize access disruption.
How is the District funding the upgrades?
The District is funding the upgrades with a combination of a contribution from McDonald’s Restaurants Canada Ltd, ICBC, Growing Communities Fund and Municipal Infrastructure.
What is the total project budget?
The total project budget is $745,000. Project budget includes initial design, engineering and construction.
Which contractor has been awarded the project?
BREE Contracting Ltd. will be the Prime Contractor for the intersection improvement project.
Will the road be closed during construction?
No. There will be single lane alternating traffic at times. However brief closures may occur from time to time to accommodate construction. The contractor has a traffic control plan in place to minimize disruption and ensure that vehicle and pedestrian traffic travelling the area is accommodated.
What kind of delays can be expected?
Minor delays are to be expected. Updates and information will also be posted to the District of 100 Mile House website as required.
What is the total scope of work for the project?
• Asphalt cutting and island removal
• Installations of conduit and light bases
• Re-building phase / concrete work
• Accessible sidewalk and island construction and repairs
• Light standard installations
• Landscaping and paving
• Signalization and programming
Where are the improvements occurring and are there detour routes available?
Alternate routes to bypass the construction are available via Fourth Street to Cedar Avenue. (See Maps below)
Construction will occur at the intersection of Horse Lake Rd, Cariboo Trail and Birch Avenue.
To avoid construction a detour can be taken via Fourth Street and down Cedar Avenue to Horse Lake Rd.
