Charging Station is Operational

 Mar. 6, 2025 – For Immediate Release

Thurs, Mar. 6, 2025 – 100 Mile House, B.C. – Two new EV Charging Stations are now operational in 100 Mile House.

Located at the Cariboo Mall, these Level 2 charging stations have just been installed and are now fully functional, with EV drivers beginning to use the infrastructure.  The District of 100 Mile House worked with the Community Energy Association and Cariboo Mall in partnership to secure a location and get the chargers installed and referenced in the Charge Point system.

Level 2 stations can require charging over a few hours, so they can help entice EV travelers to stop in 100 Mile and attract customers to local businesses while they’re here.  Nearby attractions and services will see the benefit of these additional visitors in their shops.  As more people choose EVs, access to charging infrastructure is critical for them in deciding to stop in 100 Mile House.   Level 2 stations provide an important back-up of the DC Fast Chargers that are available at the Visitor Centre parking lot.

The new chargers are part of the larger Charge North EV network, a collaboration of more than 40 local governments that has brought public charging infrastructure to Northern BC.  https://www.communityenergy.ca/projects/charge-north-ev-charging-network/. Funding for the network was provided by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Northern Development Initiative Trust, and the Province of BC, with support from other organizations, such as the Northern BC Tourism Association, BC Hydro, and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.  The District of 100 Mile House contributed $5,000 per charging station, recognizing them as an important economic development initiative designed to attract visitors.  EV Tourism is becoming increasingly popular.

The South Cariboo Visitor Centre is communicating the new chargers to interested visitors.  Owned by the District of 100 Mile House, the chargers would not be possible without the support and cooperation of the Cariboo Mall ownership.
